Scott’s in the Community

Scott’s Annual Golf Tournament

A bunch of years ago a few of us avid and not-so-avid golfers decided to make a day of it at The Lighthouse Golf Course(no longer around) in West Sacramento. There were just four foursomes, but we had such a good time at a course whose layout encouraged interaction between players on different holes that the next time we went out, there were twelve foursomes and we pretty much took over the course.

For several years after that, we got organized, went to a shotgun start (where everyone starts on a different hole at the same time) and had dinner at Scott’s in Loehmann’s Plaza after the tournament. Well, we outgrew that also. Around this time, one of our regular guests, Dr. Frederick Meyers suggested that we could not only have a good time but also make a little money for his favorite charity, a place where he also works, UC Davis Cancer Center, where he is the Executive Associate Dean.

The fund that we started way back when has grown to over $200,000 and Scott’s on the River committed in 2012 to contribute another $100,000 over five years. We have donated $40,000 so far. UC Davis was kind enough to name the Flowering Pear Tree Grove at the new Cancer Center in Scott’s honor.

You can see the Grove between the two buildings.

Every year, Scott’s on the River gives thousands of dollars in complimentary gift certificates to charitable organizations throughout the area, helping them raise money for many deserving causes.
